August 1, 2004 - a storm off the coast will give the hurricane cables
a test
An overview of the bridge and approaches
Here is the current status of the final west and east piers. The west
pier had its cap placed (left photo) and poured over the past week,
while the east (right photo)
columns are still growing. As I understand it - a pier = 2 columns + cap.
Here you can see the deck anchorage for the hurricane cables. Left is
the anchorage for the west approach while right is the anchorage associated
with the channel side of the deck. Notice that on the channel anchorage,
there is a transition in the cable-stay anchorage - the support on the
left anchorage is a bracket while to the right of the hurricane cable
anchorage, the cable-stay anchorage has a concrete base.
