July 12, 2005: Presenting first views of a clean bridge
The Motley-Rice Building on the Mt Pleasant side of the Cooper River
provided not only a great view of the bridge but is also the home of
many
banana spiders (Nephila clavipes ). This photo taken while
hovering above the Motley-Rice Building and
presents our new bridge, the old Navy Base area and the upstream
Cooper River with elegance and simplicity. If you have your curious
eyes activated, visit the brush along the Cooper River in front of the
Motley-Rice building and you will see a number of male/female banana
spiders. The male is much smaller (maybe 1/5) than the female and is
typically oriented perpendicular to his partner. Try to figure out
why?
