Building the Ravenel Bridge

After all the photos I took, I've tried to arrange them in some order based on various topics I found interesting.

And a reminder from T.S. Eliot (East Coker from the Four Quartets)

Old men ought to be explorers
Here and there does not matter
We must be still and still moving
Into another intensity
For a further union, a deeper communion

January 15-16, 2005:Getting there: the West Ramp and Approach

The light was warm, the wind was cold - but I liked these for simply what they were

West Ramp Gap: Girders placed on top of the "next" pier since last week (see Jan 8 photos below) - looks like 2 piers to go

Preparing to erect the next set of girders

Riding a beam for all its worth - these steel workers are really acrobats in disguise

Working with rebar(left) - and an afternoon discussion (right)

The East Bay Ramp - east of East Bay looking north toward the main approach (left) and south (right)

The East Bay Ramp - at East Bay

On the right is the bicycle / jogging lane - seems its for real
